Snow

It snowed in Vancouver. Twice this week. It was cold enough for the snow to stick. Two feet of snow fell overnight.

Snow is so light and fluffy. It’s so magical.

It brings back a lot of fond memories for me from childhood, from living in Ontario. Playing outside in the park with my best friend, skating at the Marsh at the end of my street, snowboarding trips and mountains. Mmm so good.

It’s all the subtle things about it that I never noticed I loved:

  • The way it lines the branches of the trees

  • The way it falls of the branches when the sun melts it.

  • The sound of it crumpling underneath my feet as I walk

  • The way it brightens up the world, illuminating it with a brightness that is characteristically snow

  • The way it draws people in, even though it is cold.

  • The playfulness it brings out in adults.

  • The way it feels, like a freshness, a fresh start, a clean slate.

  • A blanket covering the earth.

I love the snow. Being out in the snow. Making and drinking hot chocolate with marshmallows when I retreat indoors after being outdoors in the snow.

Yes. Climate change and this ‘shouldn’t be happening.’ And also it’s so beautiful to see a city that is not normally covered in snow, be covered in snow and the humans who live in it experience the magic of the snow.

With much love,
