Nature has never asked me to be anything for it.
I visit the flowers and the grass and the trees
They don’t ask how I am
Or what life is for me right now
They don’t ask how I feel
They continue to be as they are
They welcome me into their home
They are excited to see me
They do not want anything from me.
They don’t require me to be anything.
They say, come play with me.
Come rest in this soft bed of fresh grass.
Come feel what it’s like to share space with me.
Come in, whichever way you are.
Nature does not turn me away
For the way I dress
For the emotions I feel
For the version of the person I am right now
Nature is exactly the way it is, in that moment.
Nature approves of everything the way it is right now.
A tree doesn’t turn to a bush and say “you’re messy, clean yourself up”
An eagle does not apologize to the mouse it hunts
The wind does not gust according to a schedule or when it is requested.
Nature does not need me to explain
Nature does not need to understand
Nature does not pull at me
Nature does not push me away for what I said or did.
Nature absolves me of my humanness
It reminds me that I am a creature
Wild and free, if I so choose to be.
It reminds me that I am a part of something bigger.
