Day 3 of road trip.
Today has been a full day.
It started with a 3 hour wait in Winnipeg for the next bus. I needed to switch bus companies in Winnipeg, because the first company didn’t travel all the way to Toronto.
One of the women I met and I went on an adventure. We walked around outside looking for a place to eat a meal.
We walked in a circle and all the places we walked to were closed. The sun came out and it was so warm out, a climate shift from where we came from. It felt quite nice to feel the sun warmth on my skin. I just wish I wasn’t wearing sweatpants.
We ended up back at the bus depot. Which was a giant room with old chairs and it looked like some run down place you’d see in a movie, yet it had everything you needed, including a microwave. There was a lovely woman who looked over our luggage while we adventured.
We asked if there was a place to eat breakfast and she said two doors down. We missed it the first time - we walked right by it.
We went in. There was a peculiar odour, but honestly we were too tired to find a different option.
The woman I was with ordered eggs, garlic rice and chicken (that was one meal option out of 6 unique meal options for breakfast). It was a phillopeno restaurant that added breakfast items for people that came off the bus.
I ordered a coffee.
We ate and drank. We chatted. We went back to the bus depot.
We boarded the second bus after a frantic re-arrangement of items in suitcases, to ensure they were under 50lbs.
And the ride was smooth.
I fell asleep and when I woke up we were already in Ontario.
Northern Ontario is so beautiful with tones of forest, lakes, and rocky cliffs. It’s a piece of the Canadian Shield.
There’s a man that is friendly and talkative on the bus. Sometime into the bus ride he told us that he spent 25 years in prison. He wouldn’t tell us what he did and I don’t want to know. I wasn’t (and still am not) afraid of him. He poses no harm or threat, but it’s so interesting the diversity of people I’ve met in my life. I started to reflect on that.
Now it’s night time. Oh! Today I saw a baby moose for a couple minutes. It was really cute. I loved it.
That’s all for today. Tonight is my last overnight and we’ll be switching busses at 11:30pm.
Then tomorrow is my last day on the bus.
I can safely say, I will not be on another bus for a while. I’m grateful for the service and I’d be happy if I don’t sit on a bus for at least a couple weeks.
